Typically served over ice in shots with a slice of orange and spices, the brand also lends itself to a wide range of seasonal cocktails including ŻG mulled drink with apple juice and spices in the winter and ŻG “Chłodnik” with lemonade in the summer months.
Żołądkowa Gorzka uses maceration only of natural ingredients to achieve its unique range of flavours, rather than artificial extracts.
Bitter oranges, seasoned with caramel and a secret blend of spices, are macerated in special vats. Through maceration, alcohol perfectly blends with the other ingredients: it penetrates into them, extracting their full flavour and aroma.
Inspired by a recipe in Lublin which dates back to the 19th century and draws on the proud Polish tradition of distilling infusions of herbs steeped in alcohol, its unique recipe combines Haitian bitter orange, caramel and a hint of herbs. The brand is available in a range of flavours including traditional, mint, fig and black cherry.
These were joined in September 2019 by two premium flavours under the Żołądkowa Kolonialna sub brand, “Port au Prince” with a hint of whiskey and “Cayemites Bay” with a hint of brandy, celebrating the brand’s links with Haiti, the home of its bitter orange ingredient. During the 19th century, Polish seafarers combined the proud Polish tradition of distilling the finest vodka with the exotic fruits, herbs and spices they brought back from their long sea voyages to distant lands. Such adventures inspired the first recipe for the world renowned, Żołądkowa Gorzka. The orange macerate, combined with exotic spices and notes of brandy and whisky aged in oak barrels, give these premium variants a rich and complex flavour.
Then in March 2020, recognizing that innovative lighter, fresher tastes can broaden brand appeal to young adults in a wider range of usage occasions and seasonality, Stock Polska launched Żołądkowa Gorzka Rześka (Fresh) to address this continuing trend.
Available in two new refreshing flavours: Lime with Mint and Quince with Mint, Żołądkowa Gorzka Rześka is based on a unique, traditional combination of macerated bitter oranges, caramel and spices, with the addition of natural quince and lime juices with hints of mint, making them a perfect serve for the hot summer and an ideal base for refreshing drinks.Żołądkowa Gorzka Rześka does not contain any artificial ingredients or enhancers and has a low sugar content, ensuring a pleasant, light and drinkable product that meets evolving consumer expectations.
Żołądkowa Gorzka Rześka flavours achieved shipments of over 1 million litres in their first six months, contributing strongly to Żołądkowa Gorzka’s +17.5% MAT value growth, almost double that of the flavoured category, increasing the brand’s value share from 16.7 to 18.0%2.
