LCL complete high racking installation
12/08/2021
We are delighted to have successfully completed a project to install high racking in the Lublin warehouse (LCL) to increase capacity.
The team in Lublin have recently completed work that saw the installation of 59 rack modules that will extend LCL's storage capacity by 6,000 pallet places, allowing us to build better safety stock and improve reactions to market demand changes.
Using a rack system maximises storage and eliminates the wastage of space often seen with single product floor aisles. This is especially important in the case of slow moving stock management.
As well as installing the high rack system, we also invested in two semi-automated, modern VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) fork-lift-trucks (FLT) the benefits of which include:-
- Safety in the workplace – VNA FLTs, while positioned in aisles between racks, are driven by an inductive loop which allows safer working in very narrow spaces.
- Pick and place process automation – specific positioning systems take Operators to the desired destination point via an optimal route.
- Increase process efficiency – new FLTs minimise the Operators involvement in the pick and place process.
- Personal development of our employees – each Operator is provided with specialised training in operating VNA FLTs.
We would like thank everyone involved in this project, especially to the team in LCL for their full support in completing difficult tasks often with short notice. Additionally big thanks to the Production Planning and IT teams for their close cooperation and great planning which allowed the project to run in the space without any harm to sales processes.
